Creative ideas to celebrate your love on Valentines Day

Be your own date or make a friend date. Love can take many forms, so why not celebrate them all! Take yourself on a date. Make a reservation at a spa and a restaurant, go alone and enjoy getting to know yourself and checking in. Or, bring a friend along. Friends are often one of our greatest sources of love and should be celebrated, too!

Make some love resolutions with your partner.

It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of life without taking time to appreciate and evaluate your relationships. Consider taking the day of Feb. 14th to make resolutions with your partner/s about your relationship. Talk about your relationship and how it makes you feel – such as what you love about it, what could use some work and what your goals are.  You’ll find fun sex, kink and relationship quizzes and tools in books like Sex is Fun and Screw the Roses, Send me the Thorns.

Love Resolutions

Be adventurous and try something new.

If you are looking for something new to try, sex toys are a great place to start and you might be surprised at what you find. Sex toys have become more advanced every year, especially if you compare the first vibrators ever made to what is available now. Technology and innovation in the sex toy industry is exciting.  It means industrial designers are paying attention to pleasure and how our bodies work. For example, Jimmyjane’s Form 6 G3 (generation 3) was re-released with some lovely product improvements. The controls are easier to manage, the charging base is more compact and user friendly and it comes with adapters for international, travel-friendly orgasms. The Form 6 has two powerful, rechargeable motors, a curved end for gspot or pspot stimulation and a wider end that is shaped well to fit the natural curve of a female body. According to Tech Crunch, “It’s obviously the perfect companion for a lonely rainy afternoon, but don’t be afraid to whip this thing out on a playdate. You’d be surprised at how much fun the Jimmyjane can be when someone else is in control of those six vibration modes and five power levels.”  Remember – they’re toys!

Boycott the commercial aspect of Valentines day by staying in.

We’re all aware of the intense consumeristic aspect of Valentines day. At Self Serve we think it’s healthy to get away from that side of the holiday and instead, do things that will genuinely strengthen your love for yourself and others. One idea is to stay in on Valentines day, no dinner date, no roses, teddy bears or chocolate, no jewelry. Just enjoy being with yourself or with your partner/s. Stay in bed, watch silly movies, read a book, laugh, masturbate, have sex and maybe eat a buffet off your partner’s body.

Foodie Love: Going out to dinner with a date, friends and family or with yourself is a Valentine’s day classic. If you need some inspiration on where to go, click here for a few suggestions.  Keep in mind that many popular restaurants may already be booked way in advance.  Pick your favorite and make a reservation for next month, and the date may feel that much more special when you’re not dining with all the other Valentine’s folk.

Our favorite local restaurants include Artichoke Cafe, Jennifer James 101 and Scalo.  All creative, delectable and a treat for your senses.  If you’re on a tight budget, keep in mind all 3 of these fabulous restaurants have affordable options.  Jennifer James 101 offers 3 course dinners weekly at only $25/person.  Artichoke Cafe features a cozy bar area and appetizer menu with a warm fire place.  Scalo’s Il Bar features small plates and live music almost every day.

Keep in mind when planning your V-day activities that sexy time can be more difficult after you’ve been wined and dined. Many people plan to have sex (or masturbate!) earlier in the day, so you aren’t too tired and full after dinner.  If you plan to celebrate with some social lubricant such as wine, beer and spirits, you can do so responsibly and in style by reserving a spot on the Party Trolley. It’s a group taxi with luxury seating, chalkboard walls and ceiling and fun lights. Click here to reserve your spot on the Party Trolley.
